FALL - OCTOBER 2019

summer breeze drifts into a fall harvest

As the days get shorter and the temperatures start to drop our bodies start craving something different. Our beloved summer peaches and corn are no longer irresistibly sweet (and no longer available locally) we feel a pull towards hearty roasted vegetables and warm spices. It is time to embrace what we know is true: Summer is over, Fall is here. We live in a country where we can eat most of our favorite produce all year long, and we've become accustomed to that. Sure we can eat peaches in the Winter, all the way from South America, or butternut squash in the heat of Summer, often times coming from Australia and New Zeland. But something about our food traveling that far just doesn't feel quite right. While leaving behind the familiar flavors and feelings of the past season isn’t always easy, it’s what you’ll be forced to do when you eat at FARE for lunch. This week we say goodbye to our Summer favorites and welcome the flavors of Fall. Come in and you’ll find perfectly roasted delicata, butternut and acorn squashes with agrodolce and toasted walnuts. Coconut maple sweet potatoes with a touch of cinnamon. A raw beet, carrot and apple slaw with fresh lemon juice and just the right amount of local honey. Miso marinated mushrooms make their debut along with gorgeously hued turmeric pickled cauliflower and carrots. And who can resist a beautiful pasta salad packed with beans, celery, roasted red peppers and Parmesan cheese. Now put down that peach, it's time to embrace the season!

The New-new

This season, you'll find some new fun products on our small (but mighty) retail shelves.

RAAKA

First up, Raaka Chocolate. Hand crafted in Brooklyn, Raaka makes every bar from scratch with unroasted cacao beans, sourced from growers they trust and admire. Their unique process brings out the "brighter, bolder, and fruitier side of cacao." We are loving the Green Tea Crunch bar and their minis, in sea salt and oat milk, are the perfect post bowl treat.

AMAZI

Founded in 2016, Renee had a "vision to transform Uganda's best tropical fruits into wholesome, clutter-free snacks, ensuring transparency, opportunity, quality, and connection." We love her mission and her sweet and chewy jackfruit chews. Which Renee describes as a "grown-up fruit-roll-up". Be sure to snag a bag in chili lime or ginger lime for the perfect afternoon/anytime snack.

MINNA

Lightly brewed sparkling tea with no added sugars or sweeteners and only organic non-gmo ingredients. Yes, please. As if their clean ingredients, beautiful packaging and fun flavors weren't enough, "Minna" (which means everyone) donates 1% of sales to non-profits advocating for inclusion. What a refreshing idea, ha?!
